Style: Contemporary Courtyard

About This Project

A tiny garden of only about 2.4mx5m was transformed from a dark dingy space to a bright and airy courtyard complete with bespoke Napoleon barbecue, fireplace and vertical green walls. The remain walls not greened by planting are clad with Norstone panels in ‘Sahara’ which add a sense of warmth to the scheme. These compliment the large format York stone pavers over which is set with Indian Ocean arm chairs. In order to make the space more useable a fully cassetted retractable awning can be extended so that 90% of the garden is covered and the fireplace can be enjoyed even when it is raining.

In such a small space integrated storage is essential so bespoke cupboards were constructed to fit the space. They are capped with limestone tops and backed by vertical green walls planted with Bergenia, Tiarella, Vinca and Euphorbia which create a textured and softly moving backdrop to the garden.

Centered between the two green wall panels above the fireplace are textured wooden panels that echo woodwork inside the property. Set into a specially made recess within the ‘chimney’ of the fireplace they are then more protected from the weather.
